Mimecast Enterprise Information Archiving is being used across our entire firm to archive all incoming, outgoing and internal email for 10 years. It permits us to limit the number of emails stored in our Outlook system while permitting full and comprehensive searching of emails both for existing users and users no longer in the current Exchange/Outlook environment. There are also tools for eDiscovery, legal holds, and other features.
  • Allows comprehensive searching by sender, receiver, date, metadata and search terms.
  • Can export and deliver identified email from searches in a number of ways.
  • Is extremely reliable. Catches all email and stores it for as long as the customer desires.
  • Can save searches so that they can easily be recalled later.
  • Keeps a comprehensive usage log to identify all actions taken with it.
  • Has a good Outlook integration feature.
  • Can act as a backup to regular email, should it fail.
  • The system runs slowly at times.
  • There are so many features, it can be difficult to find exactly how to perform some actions.
  • Emails are not automatically shown in their native format when searched you must click on the email and then request it be formatted in the proper format (HTML, plaintext, etc.).
If you want to keep your production email system from getting bloated with old, out of date emails and want the archived emails to be easily searchable, Mimecast Archiving is an ideal tool. It is also completely cloud-based, so requires no additional infrastructure to implement it. If you are paranoid about storing your email in the cloud (albeit in a totally secure environment), then Mimecast is not for you.
  • Far less expensive alternative to an on-premise email archiving solution.
  • Has permitted us to easily locate essential email communications that are years old, but are essential to produce for legal or administrative reasons.
  • Does not require any user overhead to capture and store all email that transits the firm's production email system. Users spend zero time deciding what to archive since ALL email is archived.
Mimecast has been identified by Gartner as the top product in its magic quadrant. We found the product the easiest to implement with the best support and feature set. It has been very reliable and when we have had questions, feature requests or problems, the company has been quick to respond. They are constantly adding new features and it integrates well with Mimecast's malware and spam filtering applications.

An understanding of the firm's production Outlook/Exchange environment, the networking routing necessary to set up the Mimecast connection and an understanding of the features and usage of the Mimecast archiving interface.
  • Finding old email pertinent to a particular matter or administrative situation.
  • Acting as a backup to production email should it go down.
  • Serves as a cache for undeliverable email when there is a production email system downtime and then spools the email back into the production system when it becomes available.
  • To prove that a particular set of circumstances were authorized in writing by an approver.
  • To establish a timeline of actions for a particular matter or situation.
  • To determine how much work a particular individual was performing.
  • To determine if an individual was involved in "extra-curricular" activities while at work.
  • We're using the product to its full potential now, I believe.
Does everything we need in the realm of email archiving, does it well and does it at a price point that seems very reasonable.
